Mount Lofty was formerly known as Tick Hill. In 1904 Charles Cocks had his house, Longview, dismantled in the Toowoomba CBD and rebuilt on a 40-acre site at the eastern end of North Street, where it overlooked the city until it was demolished after 1956; a reservoir now stands on the site, near Mount Lofty Lookout. St David's Presbyterian Church opened in 1952, and Boyce Gardens on Range Street is heritage-listed.
