Half of Redwood's area is the 2,243-hectare Redwood Park bushland, after which the locality was named in 1981, and most of the rest, south of the highway, is crown land. Homes sit along the western boundary with East Toowoomba, and from there the land falls away to about 360 metres at the eastern boundary with Withcott.
Census counts for a locality this small move noticeably between years: 17 residents in 2011, 170 in 2016 and 159 in 2021.
